Recovery Care

Please read the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital brochure as it provides important patient information. If the surgical procedure you are scheduled for requires an overnight or inpatient stay, you may find the following additional information helpful in planning for your stay and answering any questions you may have.

Items to bring for your stay

  • We will provide hospital gowns, robe and slippers. If you wish, you may bring your own nightgown, pajamas or slippers.
  • You may bring your own personal care items (curling iron, blow dryers, shavers) and toiletries. Your bathroom does have a supply of body and hair soap.
  • You may want to bring your telephone credit card if you wish to charge a long distance call or you may also call collect.
  • Please bring any medications you are currently taking at home. Prescription medications need to be in labeled containers.

    Care Partners
Although not required, we encourage the participation of a family member or friend in your recovery. For out-of-town guests, an additional bed is available for an overnight stay. A continental breakfast is available each morning. In addition, a lunch or dinner meal, at no charge, will be provided for your caregiver. A list of nearby restaurants and restaurants with delivery service is also available at the Nurses' Station.

    Visiting Hours
Normal visiting hours are from 10:30 am to 9:00 pm. Your caregiver may remain with you 24 hours a day, if desired. The entrance to Recovery Care is located at the drive-through of the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital on the southeast side of the building. This door remains open during visiting hours; other entrances to the building are locked at 6:00 pm. If you need to enter Recovery Care and the door is locked, press the intercom button located at the entrance.

    Smoking
For the health and safety of our patients, the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital maintains a smoke-free environment.

    Going Home
After your physician has released you to go home, your nurse will help you plan the time that your driver should arrive at the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital's Recovery Care. For your health and safety, we cannot permit you to drive youself home. For your own comfort and security, we strongly advise that you arrange for someone to remain with you for the first few days after your return home.
